Behavioural Intelligence & The Elevation Model: The Science of Turning Insight into Impact

Last month, I joined Nagui Bihelek on The Leadership Intelligence Podcast to explore one of my favourite subjects, behavioural intelligence, and how it connects with my own framework, The Elevation Model.

Watch my short reflection on 30 years in leadership — how behavioural intelligence shapes real-world results:

(You’ll find the full recording on LinkedIn, YouTube, and Facebook — links below.)

In earlier pieces, such as, The Silence of High Achievers and Confidence or Conceit, I explored how behaviour, perception, and self-awareness shape leadership performance. This conversation with Nagui takes that thinking further, into the science of how insight becomes behaviour, and how behaviour becomes impact.

A framework born from the sharp end of leadership

That discussion prompted many listeners to ask where The Elevation Model came from, and why it resonates so deeply with high-achieving professionals.

I began shaping what became The Elevation Model back in 2018 — not from theory alone, but from decades of lived leadership and academic depth.

Over nearly 30 years of corporate and professional experience, I’ve held roles including Managing Director, Sales Director, and Board Leader for organisations with €300M turnovers and 120-plus staff. Those years at the sharp end of business taught me that behaviour drives performance, and awareness drives behaviour.

My academic path has always run alongside my professional one, beginning with a BA in Business Studies, followed by an MBA in Leadership and Sustainability, and advanced executive-coaching qualifications including the ILM Level 7 in Executive Coaching & Mentoring and the ILM Level 6 in Management & Leadership (currently in progress).

Those experiences taught me that frameworks don’t change leaders; awareness does. The framework simply gives that awareness direction.

It’s this combination of corporate realism and academic rigour that underpins The Elevation Model: seven stages from Insight to Impact, grounded in both research and real-world practice.

It’s a framework designed not just to help leaders succeed, but to help them align.

Behavioural intelligence in practice

During the podcast, Nagui and I discussed how leaders often underestimate the role of behavioural intelligence in their decision-making.

It isn’t about IQ, it is all about recognising the invisible drivers behind every choice, tone, and reaction.

Nagui also introduced me to his AccuMatch Behavioural Intelligence Assessments, which a fascinating, data-driven tool that maps behavioural patterns under pressure. It goes far deeper than broad profiling models like DISC, providing leaders with measurable insight into how they operate when it matters most.

For the CEOs, doctors, lawyers, and founders I coach, this is often the unlock point, when self-awareness stops being theory and starts becoming traction.

In my framework, this sits between Stage 3: Awareness and Stage 4: Breakthrough, which is the moment when reflection becomes transformation.
When data becomes discernment.
When understanding yourself becomes understanding others.

That’s the shift that changes everything.

From global experience to human clarity

Across more than 60 countries, I’ve seen leadership look different but feel the same; pressure, precision, and expectations that never stop rising.

That breadth of experience, and the 1.5 million professionals who engage with my work organically each year, reinforces a consistent truth: sustainable success starts with self-knowledge.

That’s why I built The Elevation Model, to give high achievers a structure to reconnect with authenticity without losing their edge.

If Clarity Is Not Just for CEOs explored awareness and Confidence or Conceit examined authenticity, then this piece bridges them; the point where insight becomes applied behaviour.

Final thought

In a world that rewards speed over substance, behavioural intelligence remains the differentiator.

It’s the bridge between confidence and authenticity, performance and purpose.

And when you combine it with alignment, that’s when leadership truly elevates.
