Why I Wish Someone a Happy Birthday Every Day 🎂

Several years ago, something shifted for me.

At the time, my online platform had grown to over 10,000 followers 📈. I realised I had an opportunity, not just to share content, but to share kindness 💛.

Around the same period, I was the General Manager of an SME and had introduced a simple yet powerful initiative: we started celebrating birthdays properly 🎉. Not just a cake in the kitchen, but a real pause to acknowledge people, but who they were, what they brought to the team, and why they mattered 🙌.  We celebrated this with gifts, additional days off and a real elevation of the occasion.   The cultural impact was immediate. It lifted morale. It deepened connection. It reminded people they were seen 👀.

That ripple effect stuck with me 🌊.

So, I extended it. Every morning for the last 5+ years, before I check emails or dive into the day’s agenda 📅, I look through my socials, especially LinkedIn, and I wish someone (sometimes more!) a happy birthday 🎈. Every day.

And here’s the thing: I’m not doing it to grow my network 🤝. I’m not trying to market myself or sell anything. Back then, I was fully employed and didn’t need to build a personal brand or chase leads. It was, and still is, just about spreading a moment of positivity ✨. A small act that might brighten someone’s day ☀️.

Fast forward to now, and I’m still doing it. I must admit, it takes me a little longer as back when I started, I may have 1 or 2 birthdays and now there can be up to 20 each day! 😊

So if you ever get a birthday message from me, know that it’s genuine. No strings. No agenda. Just a little gesture to say: You matter 💬❤️.

Because in leadership, and in life, it’s the small, consistent acts of humanity that create the biggest impact 🌱.
