Something’s been stirring in the leadership world lately.
A shift. A challenge to the old guard.

More and more leaders are realising:
People-first is not “soft.” It’s smart.
And not just ethically, but commercially too.

But not everyone’s caught up.

I’ve sat in boardrooms and heard it with my own ears:

“Let’s burn them out, get every last penny out of them.”

It’s a mindset that sees people as disposable. A cost. A unit of output.
It’s rooted in dominance, not leadership.
And it’s killing businesses , from the inside out.

Let’s be clear:
You don’t build sustainable profit by draining your people dry.
You build it by elevating them.

Sir John Whitmore saw this decades ago. The GROW model wasn’t just a coaching tool, it was a cultural intervention. A way for big corporations to develop leaders who could think, listen, and care, and get results through people, not despite them.

And it worked. The evidence is there.

Now, I’m seeing leaders across my network following suit.
They’re not afraid to challenge outdated, extractive cultures.
They lead with awareness, not aggression.
With emotional intelligence, not ego.

And guess what?
Profit follows.

Because when people are seen, supported, and developed…. they perform.
Not out of fear; but from purpose, clarity, and belief.

So here’s my challenge to today’s leaders:

• Are you building an organisation that values energy or exploits it?
• Do you truly understand the cost of burnout — to people and to profit?
• Are you leading with awareness or just dominance?

The tide is turning. People-first leadership isn’t a trend.
It’s the only way forward.

And those who don’t shift?
They’ll burn out more than just their teams.
They’ll burn out their legacy.
