Doctors are some of the humblest people I know.
Take my wife, for example. From the age of 18 (if not before!), she has dedicated her life to study, training, exams, more training… and then, quietly and without fuss, stepped into a world where she saves lives.
No capes. No grandstanding. Just quiet brilliance and relentless service.
What she and her colleagues do, day in, day out, in the NHS is nothing short of extraordinary. Doctors, nurses, support staff… all showing up, often under intense pressure, and giving their all to care for others.
And yet, what struck me recently is just how modest many doctors are. I was scrolling through LinkedIn and noticed that some do not even put “Dr” in their profile names. It’s a small detail, but it says so much.
There was a moment that’s stayed with me. We were moving to Leeds and were being showed around a new house (what became our home). My wife had just introduced herself, saying with a smile, “Call me Rachel.” But the owner of the Estate Agency gently replied, “No, you deserve to be called Doctor. You have earned it.”
He was absolutely right.
It was such a powerful exchange. Humility is a beautiful trait, but so is pride in what you have achieved, especially when that achievement has taken years of sacrifice, dedication, and resilience.
So here’s my message: Be bold. Be proud. You have earned it.
And if the current environment is testing you, and let’s be honest, for many, it is, you are not alone. Whether it’s burnout, frustration, or just feeling stuck, you do not have to carry it all alone.
I help high-performing professionals, doctors included, regain clarity and reconnect with their purpose, and find their next level. About 70% of the time, I am the right coach. When I am not, I can still help you find someone who is. That is a 100% promise.
To all the doctors out there: thank you. You really are superheroes.
